Book Review: East

East by Edith Pattou

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rose was born with adventure in her blood, and there was nothing her family could do to keep her from leaving home. One day, a giant white bear offered health and prosperity to Rose's family in exchange for Rose leaving with him. Willingly, Rose left her pleading family behind to go with the white bear. Together they traveled to far land and made home in a hidden castle within a mountain.
When her curiosity overcomes her, Rose makes a rash decision that takes her white bear away from her, along with her heart. To make amends, she must venture to a place "East of the Sun and West of the Moon."

Edith Pattou is an incredible storyteller, capturing attention in the first few pages. When I did have to--reluctantly--put this book down, it was extremely easy to get back in to it. I recommend this book to anyone--the old, middle, and young folk alike. I can't wait to read this book to my children (when I eventually have some).

  1. It kind of sounds like a beauty and the beast type thing! can't wait to read it.

    1. Yes! It definitely had similarities, which was fascinating to read. There were definitely a lot more twists than Beauty and the Beast though. Read it ASAP!

  2. Wish I remembered more details, but I do remember really liking this book. East of the sun, west of the moon has always been one of my favorite fairy tales.

    1. Becca! You should read it to Lily, that way you both benefit ;) I don't remember ever reading or hearing any version of the fairy tale, but I loved it this time around! I told mom to read it as well.
